The Red Line and the Story Behind It
Tevel Metro, of the Egged Group, is in charge of operating the Red Line in the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area’s Light Rail system. The Egged Group was awarded the State tenders to operate and maintain the Light Rail in the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area. This consists of the Red Line (began service in August 2023), the Purple Line (expected to begin service in 2028), and the Green Line (expected to begin service gradually in 2029-2030).
There are some 360 employees in Tevel, responsible for the ongoing operation of advanced technology systems, while remaining committed to innovation, safety and quality service for the passenger public.
The Red Line, which began service in August 2023, forms the backbone of the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area’s mass transit system. The line is 24 kilometers long, connecting Petach Tikva, Bnei-Brak, Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv-Yaffo and Bat-Yam.
It includes 34 stops, 10 of which are underground, with a train calling at the stations at 3 to 6-minute intervals. Each train has a carrying capacity of 500 passengers.
