Three steps and you’ve got a Bus Driving License (D) and a career for life:

Step 1 - Submit documents

  • Submit an green online green form via the Ministry of Transport website (RSL- 18 Green Form).

  • A sight test must be done (list of branches).

  • Valid driving license, minimum of two years driving a car and age over 21.

Step 2 - Theory studies

The Public Transit Driver, Bus Driver, and Taxi Driver Course - trains drivers on bus and taxi-type vehicles. The Public Transit Course teaches the theory only. This has to be complemented subsequently with practical studies and a bus driving license test (Step 3).

  • The course curriculum includes: transit laws, introduction to the vehicle, defensive driving, geography of Israel, transporting minors, English, interpersonal relations, first aid, fire fighting, demolition, environment, positive driving, the human factor and accessibility for persons with disabilities.

  • Course duration: approximately 148 academic hours. A course delivered in a morning studies format takes one month, Sundays thru Thursdays, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. An evening course takes two and a half to three months (2 or 3 weekly meetings), 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

  • Graduation requirements: attendance in all lessons, covering all subjects and successful passage of tests.

  • At the end of the course the student will receive a graduation certificate from the Ministry of Economy for the theory course for public transit drivers.

Step 3 - Practical driving studies

In this step, the student will be given hands-on driving lessons on a bus, where the minimum number of lessons is determined by the pre-existing driving license:

  • A passenger vehicle (B) license holder is legally required to take a minimum of 40 lessons.

  • A small trucks, trucks (C, C1) license holder is legally required to take a minimum of 30 lessons.

  • A commercial vehicle and vehicle with attachment (E) license holder is legally required to take a minimum of 20 lessons.

At the end of the course a Ministry of Transport driving license test will be administered. This is the final stage of the public transit driver’s course.
